CHI’s Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP) is a scattered site temporary housing program for homeless families in Westchester, NY. Only families who are residing in shelter and referred by Westchester Department of Social Services can enroll in the program.

Facilities

Housing units in EHAP are open market apartments in the general community.

Services

The program is staffed with Housing Counselors who provide case management, advocacy and direct assistance services to families. Counselors assess families’ housing needs, financial resources and financial management skills, health and mental health care needs, academic and vocational needs, hygiene and housekeeping skills, and overall ability to living independently. Independent living plans (ILP) are built around these assessments and families are connected to community services, trainings, and employment opportunities to help them achieve their ILPs.

Counselors provide direct support to families to find permanent housing including sharing housing opportunities, assisting with housing applications, interviews, and inspections, and advocating with landlords, lease signing, and the actual move into new housing.
